Pharmacology
is an important basic clinical science to all medical profession. Although
the drugs usage by dentists is usually less than physicians , but unrationable
used of drugs can cause the serious side effects and all so have the impact
to the national economics. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pharmacology
curriculum of the Faculty of Dentistry , Chulalongkorn University and needs of pharmacology
knowledge for dental practice. The survey was performed by using systemic
random sampling from the graduated dentists from the Dent.CU. from A.D.1984
to1995, then 426 questionaires were distributed. The 116 questionaires ( 27.23
% ) were returned and evaluated. The results showed that 58.62
% of dentists thought that pharmacology curriculum was sufficient
to their needs. Dentists frequently use and recognized pharmarcology knowledge regarding to dosage forms.
But dentists seldom used pharmacology knowledge on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Furthermore only some
groups of drug were use freguently, such as local anesthetics , antipyretics & anti-inflammatory analgesic, antimicrobials
and disinfectants. Moreover , most of dentists had some difficulties
in searching about drugs information. Pharmaceutical
preparation of drugs use in dentistry was not commonly done by dentists. This data of questionaires were collected and
analyzed in form percentage. The comment and discussion were also
